Joan O'Meara Obituary
Joan O'Meara, 94, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, December 26, 2025. Joan was born in Stamford on January 14, 1931, to the late George H. and Lilian Coulson Burns.
Having grown up in Shippan, Joan loved the beach and enjoyed spending time in Wildwood, NJ. She attended many baseball games, involving her six boys. Joan loved to cook Sunday dinner for her entire family, which was always served at 2:30 p.m. In the 1980s Joan worked for Stamford Hygenic but her passion was her family, spending most of her time caring for them as a homemaker.
Joan is survived by her children; Denise D'Acunto, Brian, Edward and his wife Debbie and Kevin, her daughters-in-law Kim Buzzeo O'Meara and Diana Williams O' Meara. Her twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Robert D. O'Meara three children, James, John and Robert O'Meara, her brother Charles "C.A" Burns, her sister Elaine Fisher, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Parana O'Meara and her son-in-law Frank D'Acunto.
A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joan's memory to a charity of one's choice.

Lou and I am so sad to hear of Joan´s passing. Our condolences to the O´Meara family and the many who love her. Joan was a wonderful neighbor and friend. I truly enjoyed spending time with her while we lived in Stamford. She was kind, friendly, full of wisdom and common sense, and had a great sense of humor. Rest in peace my friend.

I had gotten to know Joan through my sister & brother in law Barb & Dave Duddie who lived next door to Joan for many many.years
She was such a wonderful person always so happy and smiling
Always joking around and made us all laugh. She had a great sense of humor. When Joan knew I was visiting my sister she alwaysade a point of coming outside to say hello and chit chat for a while. She will always be in memories and I will miss her
