Judith Davis Obituary

Judith T. Davis
December 3, 1930 - November 28, 2025
It is with both great sorrow and loving relief that the family of Judith Tyler Davis announces her passing on November 28, 2025, in Stamford, CT, a mere 5 days before her 95th birthday.
Born on December 3,1930, in Brookline, Massachusetts to Jean Kimball Tyler and Daniel Tyler Jr., Judy was the youngest of three girls - her amazing sisters, Joan T. Rogers and Joyce T. Welch, predeceased her.
Judy attended Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA, followed by Smith College where she was a Zoology major and Choral Conducting minor. As a third generation Smithie, she passed down her love for the school, inspiring 4th and 5th generation Smithies in her daughter and one of her seven granddaughters.
While a student at Beaver Country Day, Judy met Benjamin Charles Davis, Jr., then attending Phillips Exeter Academy, at a choral exchange concert. The two dated through high school and then on into college, she at Smith and Ben at Amherst College, until they were married in December of 1951. Their wonderful marriage lasted until Ben's passing in September of 1996.
Judy and Ben had four children: Jonathan, currently residing in San Pedro, CA, with his wife Debbie; Kimball, who lives in Montclair, NJ, with her husband Kevin; Mark, who makes his home in Scottsdale, AZ, with his wife Tricia; and Matthew, who is married to Dana Ricci and also lives in Montclair, NJ.
Judy's children will remember her irrepressible energy, her often zany sense of humor, her devoted perseverance, and her love for God. She managed to move her family to London, England, for three wonderful years beginning in 1970, and then did the same with the family when they moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1976 for another three-year stay.
After both international assignments, Judy and Ben returned to their beloved Stamford, CT, where they had first settled in 1954. Public and community service was a great constant for Judy, and it evolved over the years. In the 1950s and '60s she was heavily involved in local Republican party politics. In the 1970s and beyond her energies focused more on community issues. She was dedicated to the Girls Clubs of America, serving in leadership roles both locally and nationally. In the 1980s Judy combined her loves for the Lord, her community, and choral music when she founded and oversaw "A Celebration of Choirs," an annual multi-faith celebration of music, worship, and fellowship. "Meals on Wheels" was another focus of community service for her. Judy loved caring for others.
For more than fifty years she was an active and proud member of The First Presbyterian Church in Stamford where she served in leadership, as a devoted choir member, and as a docent and tour guide. She loved teaching visitors about the beauty and meaning behind the "Fish Church's" magnificent architecture and stained glass windows.
Judy's family is perhaps her greatest legacy. In addition to her four children, she is survived by nine of her ten grandchildren as well as five (and counting) great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Judy's life is planned for Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, gifts and donations may be made in Judy's memory to The First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905.

Back when I was in Stamford, Judy and I sat together in the choir. What a
wonderful companion she was to so many of us! Know that she will be
missed.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis hold such a dear spot in my heart. Everybody should be so blessed to have wonderful neighbors like them. The world would be a better place if there were more Ben & Judys and the genuine kindness they shared with others. I have so many fond memories from childhood to adulthood that they were a part of.
May they rest in eternal peace.
