Joan Oberlander Obituary
She was born on August 29, 1926, in Morton, to William and Laura (Kuntz) Getz. Joan married John Oberlander on June 25, 1969, in Morton. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2005. She was also preceded in death by sister, Eleanor Geyer and their infant sister, Joyce; grandson, Adam and nephew, Bill Geyer.
Surviving are her stepsons, Keith (Nancy) Oberlander of Morton, Robert (Carolyn) Oberlander and Larry (Helga) Oberlander, all of Pasadena, California; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her nephew, Brad Geyer and great nephew, Michael Geyer, both of Murfeesboro, Tennessee.
Joan was a bookkeeper for Morton Drycleaners for 22 years and later worked for Morton Federal Savings and Loan for more than 20 years. Joan is remembered for a lifetime of cheerful, generous service to others in her church and community. Music was her special gift. She used it both as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of adult Christian choruses. She was a spreader of joy!
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2025, at Morton Apostolic Christian Church, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Morton Apostolic Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor, Apostolic Christian Church or Apostolic Christian LifePoints, all in Morton.
