Michael Hillis

MORTON – Michael L. Hillis, 73, of Morton, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, at The Loft of Eureka.

He was born on June 25, 1952, in Mc Minnville, Tennessee, to Landy and Joan (Steele) Hillis. Michael married Leslie Osborne on August 13, 1977, in Morton, Illinois.

Surviving are his wife, Leslie Hillis of Morton; daughters, Jessica (Derek) Wattenbarger of Caldwell, Idaho, Abby Hillis of San Diego, California; son, Jonathan (Ashley Donath) Hillis of Morton; grandchildren, Reed and Landy Wattenbarger, Olivia Donath and Liam Hillis; and brother, Steve Hillis of Mc Minnville, Tennessee.

At age 11, Mike gave his profession of faith in Jesus Christ at Louisville, Kentucky Church of Christ, although not walking in perfection (as none do), we have comfort in knowing that his tender young heart knew Jesus as his Savior.

Michael began his career as a machine operator at Caterpillar in East Peoria, then became an electrician through the Cat electrical program in Mossville. He continued working as an electrical tech. Then he finally finished his career in planning, retiring in May 2015. His final project was to plan the demolition of Building BB, small engine plant, where his career with Caterpillar began.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of cremated remains will be at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville, Tennessee, where a private family service will be held at a later date.
