Joan W. “Nannie” Parker, 98, of Greenfield, passed away comfortably at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. She was born in Belpre, Ohio, December 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Josephine Fling Winters. On October 27, 1943, she married her husband of seventy-seven years, Robert “Bob” Parker, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2021.

She is survived by her children; Arthur Parker of Wilmington, North Carolina, Robin (Greg) Garman of Greenfield, grandchildren; Mary Lide Parker and Ryan Hurley, Austin Parker, Bryce and Sarah (Riley) Garman, Cale and Sierra (Houser) Garman, Adam Garman, Amy (Larimore) Garman, great-grandchildren; Isabel, Claire, Elisabeth, Banks, Gabbi, Gracie, Briggs, and Eli. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, her sister, Elizabeth Garrett, and her daughter-in-law, Meda Lide Parker.

Joan graduated from Belpre High School in 1943. She worked as a switchboard telephone operator for ten years. In their early years of marriage Joan would rise early, fry chicken, prepare the picnic baskets, and spend countless hours on the riverbank watching Bob race hydroplanes. After their children were born, she became a full-time homemaker. Nannie loved volunteer work and served Red Cross and Hospice for over forty years.

Upon retirement Bob and Nannie traveled in their motorhome and spent over thirty winters in Florida enjoying fresh oranges from the trees in their yard. She was a seventy-five-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Belpre Chapter 541. In 2015, they left Belpre and moved to Greenfield where they built a new home so they could be closer to family. Bob and Joan were members of the First Baptist Church, Greenfield.

Nannie poured out her love and support to her family. Her blessing and joy were the love of her eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Joan will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11am, in the First Baptist Church, Greenfield, with Pastor Chris Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in South Salem Cemetery. Family and friends can visit with Joan’s family on Wednesday evening, October 9, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at the First Baptist Church, Greenfield. The ANDERSON-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Greenfield, is serving the family.
