Joan Marie Westin Presecan was born on Nov. 11, 1940, to Fannie and Clinton Westin.
After graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1959, she attended Purdue University where she double majored in biology and chemistry and earned her teaching credential. While at Purdue, she met the love of her life Nicholas "Nick" Lee Presecan. Joan and Nick married in 1963.
In 1976, the family moved to Claremont, Calif., where Joan dedicated her life to family, teaching and being deeply engaged in family, teaching, music and volunteering in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Nick Presecan.
She is survived by her brother, Dick (Susan) Westin; daughters: Julie (Rodd) Parker, Mary Presecan (Garry Rosemen), and Anne (Jonah) Manning; grandsons: Jake and Luke Parker and Nicholas and Parker Roseman and exchange student daughter, Jolette Wiersema and family.
The family will hold a celebration of life for Joan at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Claremont Presbyterian Church.
In honor of her more than 30 years of caring for the youth and native plants at California Botanic Garden, a permanent exhibit at CalBG will be dedicated in her honor. We enjoyed several overseas trips with Joan. She was a lovely travel companion who appreciated all things in life, big and small. Our condolences to her family and all who knew her.
