J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant ChapelJoan Grindrod Rasch, aged 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born on June 22, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George William Leyhe and the late Valeria Fermier Leyhe. She raised her family in Ellicott City, Maryland, before retiring to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Joan was entirely and completely committed to her family and greeted each one with a gasp of joy, a squeal and a two handed wave! Every moment of her life, her family knew that they were loved joyfully and fiercely. Joan spent her early professional years as one of the first female bank tellers at Philadelphia National Bank. After raising her family, she became a manufacturing sales representative for Al Hattendorf and Associates, a role she embraced with enthusiasm and dedication until her retirement. Both her careers were a reflection of her vibrant personality and her ability to connect with others. Throughout her life, she maintained a deep commitment to her community and her saviour, Jesus Christ, serving actively at Mt Hebron Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City and Providence Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island.
She is survived by her three children: Bruce R. "Rick" Grindrod, Jr. (Laura) of Mount Pleasant, SC, William G. Rasch III (Kathy) of Cynthiana, IN, and Elizabeth K. "Beth" Rasch (Randy Keyser) of Santa Fe, NM. Joan's legacy continues through her four beloved grandchildren, David R. Grindrod, Elizabeth Blakely Little (Curtis), Caroline L. Grindrod, and William G. Rasch IV (Chelsea), along with her great-grandson, Dean Little.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by two loving husbands, William G. Rasch II and Bruce R. Grindrod, as well as their daughter, Jennifer L. Grindrod.
A Funeral Service in memory of Joan will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, located at 302 Hibben Street, commencing at 2:00 PM. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the church, beginning an hour earlier. A private burial will take place at a later date in the Crownsville, MD Veteran Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
