Joan RASKA Obituary

Joan Carole Raska, age 91, a lifelong resident of Colville, WA, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Spokane, WA. Joan was born on December 8, 1933, in Colville, WA, the only child and daughter of Ray Loren and Edna Louisa (Cooper) Price.

She was raised in Colville where she attended all twelve years of education. Joan graduated in 1951 from Colville High School and began working for Dr. Hardwick's Dentist office as well as at her dad's store Ray Price Men's Wear. She would then marry Bernard Raska on March 8, 1952, in Coeur d'Alene, ID, at the Christian Church. They traveled to Alaska for a brief stay and then returned to Colville. They began a family and Joan dedicated herself to the needs of her husband, growing children and home. Her love for her family was phenomenal and she walked with them through many trials and tribulations. Joan offered her heart and compassion to others without judgement. In the summers, Joan was a swim team mom; although she never learned to swim, she encouraged her children from the bleachers and the driver seat as they traveled from meet to meet. It wasn't uncommon for her to be watching one sporting event on the television while listening to another on the radio. She and Bernard made a tradition of attending the Apple Cup rooting for the Cougars but always rooted for opposing teams any other time. They enjoyed traveling either by plane, car and RV to several destinations with friends and relatives. Bernard preceded her in death in 1996, and Joan remained in Colville until her decline in health required she receive care in Spokane.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Hancock (Jack) of Spokane, WA, Janice Schweitzer (Dave) of Plano, TX; granddaughter, Janelle Brigance (Brad); grandson, Chad Schweitzer (Leah); great-granddaughters, Camila Joan Schweitzer and Phoebe Kyle Brigance.

There was a private graveside service and vault interment for Mrs. Joan C. Raska. A gathering of reflection and remembrance will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to either Horizon Hospice or the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary. Please visit the online memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted with her care.
