Joan Margaret Saurbrier

March 14, 2026 at the age of 93. Predeceased by her beloved and cherished husband, Paul D. Atwell, her parents, Carl J. and Mary W. Saurbier, brother, Gerard J. Saurbier, stepdaughter Helen Ann McCarthy (Michael), stepson, Robert Atwell, step great grandson, Sam Wilson. Survived by sister-in-law, Betty Saurbier, Warrenville, IL., nephews, John (Colleen) Saurbier, Paul (Kat) Saurbier, niece, Karen (Jerry) Vondruska, numerous great nieces and nephews, six step children, David Atwell, William Atwell(Monica), Jeanne Betette (Vincent), Michael Atwell (Audrey) and Joseph (Jennifer) Atwell, 16 step grandchildren and 24 step great grandchildren.

Joan was an avid skier for 50 years and dedicated golf enthusiast for more than 45 years; enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, multiple design crafts, volunteering, and extensive traveling. She was a 30 year member of the Rochester General Hospital Poplar Twig, a 23 year member of the Sherwood Garden Club, a dedicated volunteer at the Genesee Hospital Surgical Center, a dispatcher for the Pittsford Elderberry Express for 15 years, and a driver for the Sisters of St. Joseph. She held highly responsible executive administrative positions in the business world for 54 years and was involved in a number of community volunteer activities throughout her life as well as active participation in multiple church ministries. Joan leaves a cherished family, especially her step granddaughter, Katelyn (Brett) Crompton, and long standing true friendships who shared so many of her life's endearing activities. No prior calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration, 50 West Bloomfield Rd., Pittsford, NY on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the church. Interment at the convenience of the family.
