Joan Silverstein Obituary

Joan Silverstein
05/23/1941 - 10/30/2025
Joan Silverstein, born May 23, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in San Francisco, California. She was a resident of Rhoda Goldman Plaza since 2018, and her family and the staff were by her side.
Joanie was pre-deceased by her husband, Lawrence Joel Silverstein (married: August 18, 1963), her parents, Abraham and Beatrice Taratoot of Atlanta and Larry's parents, Mervyn and Ruth Silverstein of San Francisco. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Lynn Silverstein, and son, Douglas Alan Silverstein (wife: Gabriele) both born in San Francisco, and her one sibling, a sister Ellen Taratoot Friedmann (husband: Andrew) and their son, Christopher, all of Los Angeles. She leaves behind many dearly loved cousins in Atlanta, and Larry's brothers Robert (wife: Cathy) of San Jose, and Russell (wife: Pat) of Walnut Creek, and their children David, Carla, Rachel, and Daniel.
Joanie treasured her time with her grandchildren, Amy's two daughters and one son, Isabella, Fernando, and Angelica Padilla, and Doug and Gaby's two daughters, Elena and Julia Silverstein. She enjoyed her long life in San Francisco, since 1963, volunteering at Congregation Sherith Israel and Chicken Soupers, organizing book clubs and Hadassah events, working in Larry's dental office, and attending classes at the Fromm Institute. She adored hosting parties and preparing Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and Passover meals for the entire family and her many friends. She brought southern hospitality to the west coast with a beautiful smile, warm heart, and elegant style. She was a proud San Franciscan from Georgia, and many adored her unique blend of cultures.
She is dearly missed by all her family, friends, and caregivers, especially Helen Corpuz, who remained at her side throughout her final hours. May her memory be a blessing, now and for generations to come.
