Joan N. Springer, 86 of Old Danville Highway, was called home on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Joan passed away peacefully with family by her side, leaving behind a legacy of love that stretched far beyond our family tree. She was a steady presence, a source of unconditional love, and someone who brightened life with her good sense of humor.

Joan was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Clifford V. and Olive M. (Dauberman) Hixson. On April 12, 1958, she married the love of her life, George A. Springer, who preceded her in death on March 27, 2016. She was a 1957 graduate of Northumberland High School. Mrs. Springer was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Northumberland.

One of Joan's greatest gifts was her ability to care for anyone and anything that crossed her path. From abandoned pets and injured wildlife to weary family, friends in need, and strangers who soon became family, Joan loved and cared for them all. Her legacy is written in wagging tails, grateful smiles and full hearts.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arthur James "Jim" Springer, of Sunbury, and John L. and Lisa J. Springer, of Northumberland; her 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marie Hixson, of Winfield; sister Yvonne Hixson, of Sunbury; sister-in-law Carol Hixson, of Sunbury; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey W. Springer, one brother, Malcolm Hixson, and two step-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Northumberland, where funeral services will follow at 11 with Rev. Karla Leiby officiating.

Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.

Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.

To honor Joan, we ask that you carry forward her example - take someone in, show compassion, care for an animal, share what you have. That is how Joan would want to be remembered.
