Joan F. Vien Bennett, 89, of Greenwood, ME, passed away (after a long battle with dementia) on Monday, June 16, 2025 at St. Andre Health Care in Biddeford, ME surrounded by her family. She was born in Gorham, NH on November 12, 1935 the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Goodno) Provencher. She attended Gorham High School and graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She was an avid reader and loved to write, always dreaming of writing a book. Joan enjoyed crafting, sewing, crocheting and gardening, as well as, going to her grandchildren's various sporting events and having family gatherings. Joan worked as Guidance Secretary at Gorham High School until her retirement. She loved her job and enjoyed helping the students she met along the way. She found joy spending time with her family and friends, and took pleasure spending her summers at the family camp on Twitchell Pond. Joan had a love for animals, especially her dogs and cats. She will be greatly missed. The memories made will be cherished always.
She is survived by her children: Kathi Blanchard and husband Steven of Limerick, ME, Richard "Rick" Vien of Greenwood, ME, William "Bill" Vien and wife Debra of Williston, VT, Michael "Mike" Vien and wife Maria of Gorham, NH and Vicki Lizzie and husband Bradley of Nashua, NH; a step-son Tony Bennett of West Bethel, ME; several grandchildren: Kim, Kyle, Ashley, Corinne, Christian, Melanie, Alaina, Philip, Joey, Robby, Bailey, Macy, Jordan and Celina; numerous great-grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren; a sister Phyllis Baillargeron and husband Ted; sister-in-law’s Cecile Provencher and Ginette Provencher; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband Robert Vien, second husband Malcolm Bennett and her siblings David, Richard "Dicky" and Robert "Bobby".
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11am at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham, NH with interment following at Holy Family Cemetery. Calling hours are from 9:30 to 11am, prior to the service. Those who wish may make donations in Joan’s memory to a local humane society of their choice.
