It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of JoAnn Daniel Bassford, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world on Saturday, July 19, 2025. JoAnn was a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Born with a natural grace and charm, to the late Lewis & Eleanor Daniel in Montezuma, GA on March 4, 1936, JoAnn was a true Southern Belle. She was the first Valdosta State homecoming queen, a title that reflected not only her beauty but also her intelligence and wit. Throughout her life, she broke barriers as a teacher and an appraiser in a male-dominated field, proving that determination and talent know no gender. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she navigated the world of business with poise and confidence.

JoAnn was a pillar of her community, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors in times of need. Her kindness and generosity were matched only by her love for her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will endure for generations.

An avid gardener, JoAnn had a special talent for nurturing life, whether it was in her beautiful flower beds or in the hearts of those around her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from the songs of birds to the playful antics of frogs, cats, and dogs. Her home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and the delightful aromas of her extraordinary cooking. Every meal she prepared was a feast for the senses, beautifully presented and lovingly crafted.

JoAnn's adventurous spirit led her to travel the world, embracing new cultures and experiences with open arms. A true social butterfly, she thrived on entertaining and creating memorable moments with family and friends. Her home was always a welcoming space, adorned with elegance and style, reflecting her keen eye for detail and her love for life.

JoAnn leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration. She is survived by son and daughter in law, Bill, Jr. & Renee Bassford of Lake Park; four grandchildren, Trey(& Rachel) Bassford, III, Megan Bassford, Logan Bassford, all of Valdosta, and Madelyn Gaskin (& John) Johnson of Kathleen, Ga; four great grandchildren, Saylor, Drake, Devin & Stella and her sister, Betty Jean Thompson of Columbus, GA. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Melanie Stafford (& Cliff) Treadway, Stephen (& Paul Clintworth) Stafford, Melissa Stafford, Gay Thompson (& Eddie) Taunton, Dan Thompson, Bud (& Joy) Bassford, David (& Kim) Bassford, Lynn Bassford Mimms, Beverly Bassford Purdy and John Sims Bassford; and numerous other great nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her devoted family will carry her memory in their hearts forever. As we celebrate her life, we remember her as a woman of strength, beauty, and grace—a true embodiment of love and compassion. Rest in peace, dear JoAnn. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved you.

In honor of JoAnn's life, a memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025 in the chapel at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Anthony McPhail will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time on Thursday. Burial will follow at a later time on the family lot at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
