JoAnn Charles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crest Lawn Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Cookeville on Dec. 10, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of JoAnn Charies on December 3, 2025, at the great age of 88. JoAnn was born in Louisville, KY, on March 3, 1937, one of eight children to Frank and Mary Rose Johnson.

JoAnn met the love of her life and beloved husband. Her Earl. They were happily married for over 50 years until he passed in 2020. They met and lived in Ft Pierce, FL, for many, many years until relocating to Cookeville, TN.

JoAnn drove a school bus for the Public School System in Putnam County in Cookeville, TN, for 29 years, where she later decided it was time to relinquish driving and became an aide on her Granddaughter Kadlecs' bus. For a brief time, she tried retirement and decided that was not for her. She enjoyed her work, and it definitely kept her going and young at heart. While JoAnn loved driving her school bus, her most Important joy was her 3 girls and numerous grandchildren. She enjoyed being with them all, whenever and wherever she could.

Preceded in joining the Lord: Mom & Dad, Mary Rose & Frank Johnson, and Her Earl, her husband, along with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survived by: her 3 daughters, Peggy (Bubba) Ward of Ft Pierce, FL, Carolyn/Sug (Bruce) Potter of Ft Pierce, FL, and Tracy (Marc) Pendel of Cookeville, TN, along with 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and her son-in-life Dave, along with numerous nieces and nephews. JoAnn also leaves behind a beloved sister, Delores Black of Ft Pierce, FL

JoAnn's cremation is being handled by Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville, TN. At a later date, the Family will have a private Celebration of Life where they will spread their momma and daddy's ashes together forever. A memorial mass will be held in her honor in Ft Pierce, FL, at a later date.

We Love You Jo Jo for forever and ever. Go Rest High on that Mountain.
