Mrs. Joann Payne Freeman, 82, of 121 Myrtle Street, widow of Willie Freeman, Sr., went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2025, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County on September 9, 1943, a daughter of the late Rosetta Payne and Clifton Collins.
She was a faithful member of Second Damascus Baptist Church where she served on the Gospel Chorus.
She is preceded in death by: a son, Gerald Payne; five sisters, Charlie Mae Higgins, Wilhelmenia Brown, Rosa Marshall, Sennie Thomas and Shirley Nance; and three brothers, Julian, John and Cleveland Payne.
Surviving to cherish her memory are: her sons, Glenn (Michelle) Payne, Willie Freeman Jr. (Paulette) and Tony Freeman (Shannon); a daughter, Sharon Freeman; two sisters, Ellen Quarles and Brenda Payne; a special cousin, Julia Carter; eleven grandchildren, Christopher reared in the home, Whitney, Destiny and Zavier Freeman, Irisha and Felicia Payne, Kenneth White, Monica Priester, Nyika Wideman, Asia and Tyesha; a daughter-in-law, Josephine Payne; twenty five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Second Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Robertson officiating
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Freeman will lie in state from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Tuesday at the Church.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Funeral Home.
The family is at the home 121 Myrtle Street, Greenwood, SC 29646 (Magnolia Subdivision).
