JoAnn Nielson Hosick, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 91.
She was born on December 31, 1933, in a close-knit community of Ephraim Utah to Sena and William (Bill) Nielson. JoAnn was the oldest of six children, she grew up with a deep sense of responsibility, care and compassion, which defined her throughout her life. She carried these qualities into her roles as a devoted mother to her children – Gerald Brent (Debbie), Kevin Scott (Barbara), Lori (Kurt) Dobson, and Kenneth Todd Nielson.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She loved being a hostess for family gatherings, always being prepared prior to arrival so she had time to relax and enjoy her company.

As a dedicated plant lover, JoAnn found joy in caring for her plants, both inside her home and outdoors. She lived in the beauty of a home filled with warmth, color and life – a true reflection of her spirit. Whether tending to her plants and flowers, creating art or spending time with her family, JoAnn lived each day with quiet grace and kindness.
While living in Palm Springs California, she went to beauty school to become a cosmetologist. Upon returning to Utah, she enjoyed doing manicures and had patrons who adored and loved her. She continued this profession as long as she could doing nails for her granddaughters who were always excited to have their nails done by grandma.
Later in life she met and married Frank Hosick. They had a great life together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Sena Nielson, four siblings, Camille Oberhansley, Sandra Johnson, Dana Hensler, and David (Pete) Nielson, and husband Frank Hosick. She is survived by her sister – Janel Strode. JoAnn is also survived by her four children, 17 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.
