JoAnn Nena Robinson, age 85, passed away after a life marked by devotion to family, professional accomplishment, and lasting friendships. She was born on October 5, 1940.
JoAnn shared a loving marriage of 50 years with her husband, Gary. Their relationship was defined by deep devotion, enduring friendship, and a passionate partnership that shaped the foundation of their family.
She is lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Wendy (Rob), Becky, Denise, and Teraysa. She was a proud grandmother to grandsons Cole (Landon), Casen, and Nathan, and to granddaughters Emma, Ellie, Kara (Dan), and Katie (Eric). She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Amelia, Palmer, Everett, and JB.
In the 1960s, JoAnn founded a secretarial school for young women in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was deeply committed to encouraging women with limited opportunities to believe in themselves and develop professional skills that enabled them to achieve independence and meaningful employment. Many of her former students continued to speak of the lasting impact she had on their lives.
Later in life, JoAnn went on to experience great business success in the insurance industry, working with Allstate and Jefferson Pilot. She became the first woman to be named Salesperson of the Year at Allstate, reflecting her determination, intelligence, and strong work ethic.
JoAnn especially enjoyed the simple pleasures of daily life — meeting friends for Wednesday morning coffee at McDonald’s and gathering for spirited games of canasta. These routines reflected her love of friendship, conversation, and community.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
