Joann Spence, age 86, of Urbana, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Allenview Nursing Home in Springfield, Ohio. She was born February 24, 1939, the daughter of the late John W. and Martha (Kingery) Bartruff. Joann had a love of animals, especially birds, and she loved going to any Zoo she could get to. She loved tending to her flowers and gardens, she along with her husband always had a big garden to help the family. She enjoyed listening to music, mostly blue grass and older classic county. Joann loved spending time with family, she loved going on rides, seeing the change of the seasons, seeing all of the Christmas lights on display, and family picnics, any excuse to have a picnic was fine by her. She loved her family and will be missed. Joann is survived by seven children, Pam (Dennis) Renander of Beavercreek, Brenda (Terry) Lutz of Urbana, Rhonda Spence of North Lewisburg, James Spence of Jamestown, Martha Spence of Urbana, Kimberly Heppard of Urbana, and Karla (Will) Mondesir of Springfield; grandchildren, Michelle L. Lutz of Urbana, Chad M. (Sarah) Lutz of Urbana, Jordan R. (Casie) Heppard Indian Lake, Jenna N. (Bob) Alig of Indian Lake, Brent L. (Donna) Laughman of Gallion, Taylor B. Huffman of Urbana, Lindsay (Chase) Anspach Rushylvania, and Ethan S. Brim of Kenton; 13 great grandchildren; sister Sondra Bartruff of Xenia; and several extended family members and friends. Along with her parents, Joann is preceded in death by her husband Leroy Spence on June 19, 2008; sister Doris Zurface; infant sister Phyliss Bartruff; and brother John R. Bartruff. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Powers-Kell Funeral Home, Jamestown. Burial will follow in the Grape Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
