MARLBOROUGH - Joanna Lisa Levine, PhD, beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt and extraordinary astronomer, artist, dancer, yogi, beachcomber, and lifelong learner, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
Joanna lived 47 vibrant years. She was diagnosed with mesothelioma in May of 2020. Joanna fought for her life and lived for 3 years and 3 months, which is unheard of with this type of cancer. She spent her life with her husband Tim, and cats Tycho, Albiorix, and Nyx living in Marlborough and Eastham, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.
She is predeceased by her grandparents, Roger & Martha Malfliet and Helen & Wilfred Levine. She is survived by her husband, Tim Spahr, her parents, Jeffrey and Ottilie, her siblings, Jonathan (Sarah, Sam, and Jack) and Sara (Derrick and Bowen).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 30th, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury St., Worcester, and will be livestreamed at https://emanuelsinai.org/live-streams/. A celebration will follow at the synagogue. Burial will take place at 12:00 PM, Monday, July 31st, at the Falmouth Jewish Cemetery. Please wear colorful clothes to all services and celebrations.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please donate to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation online at https://www.curemeso.org/donate/donate-online/ Shiva will be Monday night, 7:00 PM, at The Levine's Home at 6 Kanes Xing, Worcester, MA. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.

Tim I am so sorry to hear about Joanna. I have so many memories of our long chats in the office at Marlborough. I remember how excited you were when she arrived to stay full time. So loved life and you so much. Her light will be missed.
