Joanne Arlene Smith Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Lake Travis on Oct. 4, 2017.
After a decade long struggle, Joanne Arlene Montgomery Smith lost her battle with Alzheimer's Disease on October 4, 2017 at 6:00 in the evening. Born on November 27, 1931 to Walter and Esther Montgomery, Joanne was raised in the Washington D.C. area with two brothers, Bob and Charlie. She met James Warren Smith at a church picnic when she was just sixteen years old. Jim informed her during their second date that he intended to marry her. They married three years later on July 21, 1951. They have shared sixty-six happy years together as a devoted couple. Joanne's first job was in Washington D.C., as secretary for the congressmen from the state of Texas. The family moved to Texas in March 1969. Joanne worked for many years as a real estate saleswoman and broker. She was a life-long traveler, making trips with her husband Jim to far locations and to visit far family and friends. Joanne loved living near so many friends in Lakeway, Texas. She enjoyed playing golf, hosting and attending dinner parties, and the occasional game of bridge. Joanne is survived by her husband, Jim, and their three children: Pam Gionfriddo, Nancy Smith and Robert Smith and their families. Immediate family members include grandchildren: Melody Rickard, Verena Wylie, and Michael Smith; and one great grandson, Noah Wylie. Joanne is blessed with an extensive family of in-laws. Joanne is additionally survived by two brothers: Robert Montgomery of Florida and Charles Montgomery of North Carolina and their families. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lakeway Church. Joanne's ashes will be laid to rest in the Smith family plot at the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia. The family appreciates condolences, but declines flowers. If you wish, a donation may be made in Joanne's name to The Lakeway Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
