Joanne Mary Kajmowicz

Joanne Mary Kajmowicz, age 87, passed away on October 20, 2025, at home in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by her son Larry and daughter-in-law Kathie Kajmowicz.

Born on April 3, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, Joanne was the beloved daughter of John and Elizabeth Kandl. She grew up in a lively household with her siblings Kathy Oldenberg (recently deceased), Bob Kandl, Larry Kandl, Virginia Frey, Jim Kandl, and John Kandl.

Joanne married the love of her life, Richard Kajmowicz, on July 27, 1968. Together, they raised their family in Lincolnwood, Illinois, where Joanne lived from 1977 to 2023. After Richard's passing in 2013, Joanne continued to live a life full of purpose, eventually moving in with her son Larry and his family, residing in Northbrook, Illinois, Fort Myers, Florida, and most recently Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

A dedicated educator, Joanne served as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools and earned the distinction of being a National Board-Certified Teacher. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom-she was a CCD teacher in the 1990s and served as Sunday School Director at Queen of All Saints in the 1980s. She also proudly volunteered as a Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy in the 2000s, helping guide young people toward their futures.

Joanne's life was defined by generosity, family, and a love of learning. She was a world traveler, a mentor, and a woman who believed deeply in helping children become their best selves. Her spirit was warm, her heart giving, and her presence a source of strength and joy to those who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children: Kathy Washburn and husband Chris Washburn, and grandchildren Ainsley, Abby, and Aubrey Washburn; John Kajmowicz and wife Beth Kajmowicz, and grandchildren Ryan and Jake Kajmowicz; and Larry Kajmowicz and wife Kathie Kajmowicz

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chicagoland area at a later date to be determined.
