Joanne Majkut Obituary
ALBANY - Joanne Majkut died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 16, 2023, she was 71 years old.
Joanne Christine Majkut was born in Albany, on December 17, 1951, to Martin and DeGloris Dawson. Joanne attended Cardinal McCloskey High School. She was a 911 dispatcher for the Albany Police Department and a bus driver for Guilderland Schools for many years. Joanne was also a homemaker and mother to her four beautiful children, Kathleen Flowers (Austin), Robert Majkut (Kristen), Michael Majkut (AnneMarie), and Kerry Majkut Brown (Jeff).
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Robert J. Majkut; her brother, Michael Dawson (Gail); her four children; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as 'Mema'. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen Dawson Mengel; her niece, Jamie Mengel; her son-in-law, Austin Flowers, and her parents.
Joanne volunteered as a member of the Westmere Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary for many years. She was also a lifetime member of the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad. Joanne enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bowling, riding motorcycles, and holiday decorating. She was an animal lover and had many beloved dogs and cats over the years. Joanne will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Joanne's family Wednesday, July 19, at the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany, NY 12206 from 4 to 7 p.m. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, (Father James Lefebvre Way) Albany, NY where her funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.

Another year has passed and still my heart will never be the same. I never thought this day would ever come. I still smile every time i think of the memories and adventures we had together. When I got the call, sadness filled the message. It's hard to lose someone. No words can ever remove sadness. Memories hold the story of those that have passed. She will be taking that last journey without us. Perhaps we will all meet again.
For now, I am sorry your call wasn't filled with happiness. But, I will hold those memories of Joanne close. Close!
