Joanne Doreen Bergland Olson passed away at Thorne Crest Senior Living on January 9, 2024 at the age of 86. Born February 15, 1937 to John and Dorothea (Nelson) Anderson, she was born, baptized, and confirmed in Albert Lea, MN.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; first spouse John Bergland in 1991, and her second spouse Laverne Olson in 2018; son Jay Bergland in 2002; fathers and mothers-in-law Nels & Agnes Bergland, and Vernal & Arlene Olson; brother John Anderson; daughter-in-law Audrey Smith; nephews Clint Stevens & Jimmy Carroll; 8 brothers-in-law and 10 sisters-in-law in the Bergland family, with Joanne being the last one of that generation.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deb (Dick) Polley of Albert Lea, Stan Smith of Elizabethtown, KY, and John (Barb) Smith of Eyota, MN; sisters, Mary (Dwight) Stevens of Albert Lea and Sandi (Bobby) Fisher of Albert Lea; her cherished grandchildren, Angie Thostenson, Jessica (Tom) Mafale, RJ Polley, Bruce (Billie) Lewis, Willie (Natasha) Lewis, Tandy Lewis, Janeile (Cody) Fredericksen, and Joshua Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Many Thanks for the Loving care given to her at Thorne Crest, Oak Park Place, and to St. Croix Hospice.
A memorial service in honor of Joanne will be hosted by Bonnerup Funeral and Cremation Service in Albert Lea beginning at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2024; visitation will begin one hour prior. Joanne will be inurned with her son Jay at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea during a private family service in the spring.
