Samuel Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cater Funeral Home on Mar. 3, 2026.
Samuel L. Davis, 81, of Madison, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Sam was born August 17, 1944, in Faribault, MN to Lee P. and Erma Fern (Schuette) Davis of Albert Lea, MN. He graduated from Albert Lea High School. In 1967, following medical issues, Sam moved to Missouri, where he built his life and career.

Sam was first married to Beverly Sue Dailey. Later, on July 11, 1986, he married Sandra K., who preceded him in death. Sam worked for N&S Railroad for 37 years. After retiring from the railroad, he continued working on his farm and did local welding and salvage work.

Sam enjoyed spending time with family, friends, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his inspiration for living. He cherished every moment with them. Sam also loved the occasional spirited argument with his two sons; Kam and Tim. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was kind, yet firm in his beliefs.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra K. Davis; his parents, Erma and Lee Davis; his brother, James "Jim" Merle Davis of Albert Lea; as well as Beverly Goosey and Aaron Davis.

He is survived by his oldest son, Kameron and Peggy Davis; his youngest son, Timothy (Davis) Rinehart and his wife Tina; and other children, Joey and Shawn Davis, and Jimmy, Johnny, and Jerry DeOrnelis; his grandchildren: Brittany and Ron Dickson; Brett and Shelly Davis; Timothy and Kelly Rinehart; Ashley and Mike Grant; Amanda and Brandon Milliken; Ashley and Michael Davenport; Kaira DeOrnelis; Aaron and Dorothy DeOrnelis; James and David Deornelis; Justin and Kendra DeOrnelis; and Mason DeOrnelis; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Cooper, Keegan, Callie, Addyson, Warren, Elliott, Kenlee, Jocelyn, Fiona, Leighla, and Erik; and one great-great-grandchild, Joanna; his sister, Mary Ruth and her husband Ronald Baker of New Ulm; his sister-in-law, Helen Elaine Davis of Albert Lea; as well as several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Sam's legacy of hard work, generosity, and devotion to family will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a joint visitation to be held Friday, March 6, 2026, 4 - 6 pm, at the Cater Funeral Home. A private committal will take place at a later date.
