Joanne H. Poirier

Joanne Poirier, age 90, peacefully departed this life on December 21, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of Richard A. Poirier, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage and a lifetime of devotion.
Joanne was born on May 12, 1935, in Claremont, New Hampshire to the late Ehrick and Mary (Coleman) Howland. She was predeceased by her loving siblings: Ehrick Howland Jr., Virginia (Howland) Begle, and Richard Howland. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Joanne was the heart of her family and the welcoming spirit of her home.
Joanne dedicated many years of her life to serving the Meriden community as a school secretary for the Meriden Public Schools, a role she truly loved and took great pride in. Known for her warmth, kindness, and reliability, she formed lasting friendships through her work and left a positive impression on all who knew her. Her home was always open, warm, and filled with love. She loved to entertain family and friends alike. Joanne's cooking nourished not only hearts and bellies, but also the bonds of family and friendship. She cherished time spent with loved ones and had a special love of Christmas, delighting in making the holidays magical and memorable for everyone around her.
Joanne and Richard's love story was one for the ages. Their journey began in Springfield, MA with a blind date followed by a weekend filled with dancing, conversation, and laughter. So certain was Richard of Joanne that he told his roommates he had met the woman he would marry. That promise became reality on August 27, 1960, marking the beginning of a relationship built on love, trust, laughter, and unwavering companionship. Her loving husband remained by her side to the very end.
Joanne is survived by her devoted husband, Richard A. Poirier; her children, Mark Poirier, Brian Poirier, and Susan Rotella; as well as 8 cherished grandchildren. Family and dear friends will forever cherish her memory.
A celebration of Joanne's life and legacy will be held on January 23, 2026 at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home in Wallingford, CT with calling hours from 3 pm to 5 pm followed by a service starting at 5 pm. The family welcomes all friends and family members who wish to join us to honor our dear wife and mother. Her interment will occur the following morning, January 24, 2026, starting at the funeral home at 9 am and traveling to CT State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT to say our final goodbyes. Joanne will be remembered for her loving heart, her generosity of spirit, and the deep joy she brought to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
