A special gratitude of thanks and appreciation to all of the caregivers who treated Joan so kindly. Your hard work and prayers will never be forgotten.
Born in Chicago, Joan lived a life rooted deeply in faith, service, and love for family. She was raised on the south side of Chicago, where her faith was nurtured from an early age. She attended St. George Catholic elementary School and was a proud graduate of Maria High School, foundations that helped shape her lifelong devotion to the Catholic faith and service to others.
Joan continued her education at St. Francis School of Nursing and went on to dedicate 40 years of her professional life as a Registered Nurse. Nursing was not just a career but a calling-one she fulfilled with compassion, skill, and deep respect for the dignity of every person she cared for.
For 61 years, Joan was an active and devoted parishioner of St.Isaac Jogues Parish, where her prayer life and commitment to the Church were evident in both quiet devotion and generous service. A daily Mass attendee, she drew strength from the Eucharist and held a profound devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. Her faith led her on religious pilgrimages throughout the world, experiences she treasured and that further enriched her spiritual life.
Joan's parish involvement was extensive and heartfelt. She served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Women's Club, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and numerous parish outreach efforts. She volunteered as a Den Mother, supported parish clothing drives and bake sales, and gave her time wherever there was a need. Joan's hands and heart were always open in service to others.
She also found joy in a wide range of hobbies and interests, including reading, golf, tennis, ceramics, bowling, and participating in several card clubs, playing Bridge, Pinochle, and Canasta. A lifelong learner, Joan embraced new interests and friendships with enthusiasm.
The greatest joy of her life was her family. Joan delighted in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished celebrating each of their sacraments and milestones. She was their proudest supporter, faithfully cheering them on at athletic events and fine arts performances, always present and encouraging.
Joan will be remembered as a devoted wife; a loving, supportive sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt; an active volunteer within SIJ parish ministries; a gracious hostess who welcomed many family and friends for holidays and celebrations; a loyal friend; and a lifelong learner. Her legacy is one of faith lived daily, service given freely, and love shared generously.
Joan's life was a beautiful reflection of prayer in action, and her example will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
