Joanne Ranney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Memorial Chapel on Nov. 13, 2025.
Joanne M. Ranney, 88, of Cavendish, VT passed away on November 12, 2025. She was born in Cavendish on February 21, 1937, daughter of William and Dorothy (Blanchard) Pelkey. Joanne attended Duttonsville School and Chester High School where she graduated. She went to Boston to work and live with her sisters. It was in Boston where she met her future husband, Harold "Lee" Maxwell. Joanne and Lee were married in Arkansas where Lee was from. They lived there a short while then moved back to Vermont and lived in Springfield. Joanne worked at Parks and Woolson in Springfield for 40+ years.

Joanne later married Wayne Ranney and they lived in Cavendish.

Joanne was a very independent woman. She loved her Husqvarna and enjoyed mowing and gardening. Flowers were planted in the spring, and she loved to swim in the pool. She even went down the Mountain Coaster at Jackson Gore while in her 70's and what fun! She loved being with family – the many get-togethers, visiting her brother and Judy in Florida and her trips to Florida in the winter with Scott and Terry. She enjoyed going to country music concerts with Toni and Bruce. She especially loved the bible studies every week. Church was very important to her. She served on various committees. She knew her Lord and Savior and now is with Him forever.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Judy Pelkey, nephews Stewart B. Pelkey, Scott (Terry) Ranney and Keith (Lori) Ranney; nieces Jacki (Ron) Gosselin and Wendy Gallagher and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents, first husband Harold "Lee" Maxwell and her second husband Wayne C. Ranney; brothers Stuart and Stanton Pelkey; sisters Joy Pelkey and June (Pelkey) Ranney and nephew Daryl Pelkey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on November 22, 2025, at the Cavendish Baptist Church. Reverend Abraham Gross will officiate.

Davis Memorial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
