Joanne Winner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes - Serenity Gardens Chapel on Feb. 3, 2026.
Joanne E. Winner peacefully passed away on January 25,2026 to join her daughter, Lori and her daughter-in-law, Jean, to be with our Lord.

Joanne was born February 28,1934 in Dayton, Ohio to Gerhard and Josephine Jeckering. There she lived until her marriage to her beloved husband, Ernest Winner, on August 28, 1954. They were married 71 years until her death.

After their marriage, they lived in Versailles, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Santa Maria, California; Waveland, Mississippi; Slidell, Louisiana; and Winter Park, Florida; before settling in Lakeland, Florida where she resided for almost fifty years. She worked for Sears as a stocking clerk until her retirement in 1999.

Joanne was a devout Catholic and an active member of Resurrection Church in Lakeland, Florida, where she attended mass regularly and volunteered by cleaning the church and aiding with the bereavement committee by helping prepare food. She also volunteered at various charity thrift stores and food pantries in Lakeland. While in Waveland, Mississippi, she volunteered as a den mother, where she was awarded den mother of the year at their district banquet. Her hobbies included crocheting, needlepointing, quilting, and playing Scrabble on her computer.

Joanne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was her joy. She always had a positive attitude and a determination to conquer any problem or illness she endured. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Joanne was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Robey, and her daughter-in-law, Jean Winner. She was also preceded in death by both her parents, sisters Rosemary Jeckering, Rita Schock, and brothers Paul Jeckering, Richard Jeckering, and Joseph Jeckering.

Joanne is survived by her husband Ernest Winner, sons Gary Winner (Marilyn), Anthony Winner (Susan), Andrew Winner (Lisa), and son-in-law Eric Robey. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Joanne's funeral will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland, Florida on February 20, 2026, at 11:30 AM followed by a grave site service at Oak Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Joanne request that donations in her honor be presented to St. Jude's Children Research Center or to Talbot House Ministries in Lakeland, FL.

Aunt Joanne looks the same as I always remember and will forever remember her wonderful laugh. Rita was my mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Wish you had lived closer.

I am sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Joanne was my Godmother and Aunt (Paul was my father). I thought of her often and I always remember the my first doll she gave me.
