ENGLISH Joaquín Gonzalez peacefully passed in his home on Tuesday, February 18th at the age of 87. Born in Chavinda, Michoacán, México in 1937, Joaquín embodied the values of hard work, old-school Mexican traditions, honesty, and dedication to his family. Joaquín migrated to California as a teen in the 1950s, beginning his commitment to the agricultural industry, a testament to his strong work ethic and connection to the land. He lived and worked locally in Santa Cruz County, and in the mid 1970's built a life with his young family settling in Las Lomas, California. Eventually, he retired as a respected operating engineer for a local agricultural cooler (Merchants Refrigeration Company- Christen Salvenson) in Salinas, Ca. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment were the cornerstones of his work life. Joaquín was a man of strong character, instilling traditional values and a sense of responsibility in his children. While firm, his love was undeniable. He possessed a playful and affectionate spirit that shone brightly when he was surrounded by his grandchildren, whom he showered with boundless love and joy. A proud Mexicano, Joaquin was true to his heritage and instilled that pride in his family. He held dear the old-school traditions that defined his life. One of his greatest joys was embarking on day long road trips to Mexico in his camper, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. He found immense pleasure in the simple things: "carne asadas," the shared laughter over "botanas," and the beauty of nature that surrounded his home. He nurtured his plants, enjoyed picking his vegetable crops, especially his beloved nopales. He found solace sitting on his outdoor bench, gazing at the landscape from his hillside home. Joaquín will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Teresa Maciel de Gonzalez, of 64 years, his children, Joaquín (Quin), Graciela (Gracie) Joseantonio (Peps), Teresa (Terry), Jaime, and Eddie, his 24 cherished grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and his extended family and friends. His legacy of hard work, integrity, and tough love will forever remain in our hearts. For those who wish to accompany us, visitation will be held on March 19 at Mehl's Colonial Chapel. The catholic rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Maria Auxiliadora Parish on March 20 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Valle Public Cemetery.
