Joe Blankenbaker Obituary

Joe N. Blankenbaker, 94, of Albany, passed away on Nov. 30. He was born in Apache, Oklahoma, to John and Ruey Blankenbaker. The family moved to Oregon in the 1930s. Joe graduated from Albany Union High School, served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, and later earned a B.S. from Oregon State University. He worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1997.

Joe had a lifelong passion for tinkering in his shop, inventing solutions to whatever mechanical problems came his way, always "thinking outside the box," and helping his neighbors whenever he could. With his cherished partner, Irene, he kept up the family farm and had many beloved dogs over the years. Memories of road trips and motorcycles always brought a smile to his face.

He is survived by his partner, Irene; his brother, John (Eleanor), of Vermont; and his niece, two nephews, and grand-nephew.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to an animal shelter in your community.

Joe was a beloved long-time neighbor. I remember him riding by on his big touring motorcycle, looking so "cool". He was always welcoming to us kids with a gentle smile and great voice. I'd stopped by and talked with Joe the summer of 2024, he was out taking out some dandelions in the yard. It was nice to have a quick chat with him! His deep laugh will be missed!

Deepest Sympathy,
