Tupelo native Joe Boyd Woody, Jr., 72, passed away on December 24, 2023, after a short illness in Ormond Beach, Florida, his home for over three decades. He attended Tupelo High School and Ole Miss and worked in the tool and die business until his retirement. He was active in his community. In addition to serving as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, he belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1991, serving as chapter president for several years. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, led a successful campaign to allow dogs on Ormond Beach, and was active in the local Republican Party. He was an avid animal lover, loved the beach and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Joe, Sr., his mother Betty Jean Cooley Woody, a sister Barbara Jean "Babs" Davenport, and a brother Phillip Woody. He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Elizabeth "Beth" Varner of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and Judith Ann "Judy" Silas of Tupelo, Mississippi, and a brother Bill Woody of Ooltewah, Tennessee. He also leaves behind a son Joe III of Collierville, Tennessee, two daughters Melanie Sykes of Southaven, Mississippi, and Stephanie Woody of Charlotte, North Carolina, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. We knew Joe as a warm, friendly and caring person. He looked after us when we needed him and was always there to offer assistance. We will miss this gentle soul greatly going forward. Rest in peace good friend as you rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus.
