Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Family Funeral & Crematory Services, LLC - Murfreesboro on Jan. 4, 2024.
Husband. Father. Brother. Friend. Coach. Faithful Servant.
Arnold Joseph 'Joe' Gaskins passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the age of fifty-eight. Joe was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and with the help of a wonderful medical team, lived life to the fullest for almost four years. He trusted in the Lord's will and showed grace to the world.
Joe loved spending time with his family, golfing, sipping on bourbon or tequila with a cigar, hosting a crawfish boil or a Posada, coaching the Oakland Archery team, serving with the Knights of Columbus or at church, exceeding the expectations of the State Farm Insurance customers and just simply helping anyone do anything.
While he loved hunting and fishing, his biggest impact was in the community. He was loved and known as Joe, Mr. Joe, Coach Joe, Uncle Joe and even Papa Joe. He never met a stranger, always had time for everyone, and never failed to shake the hand of another and make them feel special. He routinely handed out good counsel and often lent a listening ear.
While Joe will be dearly missed, he would want everyone to know he was more than prepared and eager to meet his Lord and Savior. His work here was done. He received an offer he could not refuse to a place with family and friends he had not seen in a long time; where he can socialize, share a drink, smoke a cigar or two and laugh. While we miss him dearly, we look forward to the time when we can see him again.
All people die but not all people live. Joe Gaskins lived. He is at peace.
He was born in
El Paso, Texas on December 4, 1965, the fourth child of Edward and Pauline Gaskins. Joe and Raquel bonded over their mutual appreciation for faith and family. They continued to share this throughout their long and happy marriage, which resulted in the birth of their daughters, Alyssa Gabrielle, and Isabelle Grace.
We know God is pleased to have one of His kind and generous children back in His arms, where he belongs. His life will continue to be celebrated by his wife, Raquel; daughters, Alyssa (21) and Isabelle 'Izzy' (16); brother, Paul (Linda) Gaskins; sisters, Linda Becker-Cook, Mary Lu (Norm) Wagner and Deborah Allen; mother-in-law, Carolina Vega, father-in-law Felix (Mila) Vega; sister-in-law, Caroline (John) Schneider; grandpup Kimbal; and a host of special family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pauline Gaskins.
'Te amo and good luck, good luck, good luck."
