Vincent Joe Gladeau, also affectionately known as Joe, was born on December 11, 1943 in Lodge Pole, Montana. He passed away on December 3, 2023 in Shelby. As we celebrate his life and bid him farewell, we remember the many moments and achievements that defined him as a remarkable individual.
His educational journey began in Wagner, Montana where he attended grade school. Joe went on to graduate from Malta High School.
Joe's commitment to serving his country led him to join the Navy in December of 1960. For six years, he dutifully served his country until his honorable discharge in December of 1966. We honor his bravery and patriotism.
After leaving the Navy, he returned to Montana and married Charlotte Oshio. He and Charlotte returned to San Francisco where Joe worked for Kelly-Moore Paint Company and eventually became a branch manager. But missing Montana, he moved his family to Shelby. Joe and Charlotte later divorced. He married Donna Goltz in 1983.
Joe began his career at Shelby Distributors in 1979, where he quickly became known as "The Beer Guy." Over time, he expanded his expertise and started working with wine as well. His dedication to his work allowed him to supply wine and beer across the Highline to Glacier Park. Later on, Joe transitioned to North Central Wholesale before ultimately finding his place at the Broom & Brush company, where he would eventually retire.
Throughout his life, Joe cherished several accomplishments that brought him immense pride. He was a proud member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana - a community that played a significant role in shaping his identity and heritage. Additionally, Joe possessed great artistic talent, particularly in sculpting and bronze work which showcased his creativity and passion for the arts.
