Obituary published on Legacy.com by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Inc. - Madisonville on Feb. 18, 2026.
Born on March 29, 1967, Joe lived a life defined not by limitations, but by determination, faith, humor, and deep love for his family. Though he lived his entire life with cerebral palsy, he accomplished far more than anyone ever expected including earning the rank of Eagle Scout, proudly spending four years in high school as the football team manager, and completing his degree from Hiwassee College. He met challenges with resilience and quiet strength, teaching those around him that perseverance and heart matter far more than circumstance. His last incredible act of service was the opportunity to donate many of his organs to people waiting for life-saving transplants.
Joe loved his family. Time spent together - whether cheering on a favorite team, watching a movie, or playing games - brought him his greatest joy. He was a devoted fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and the San Francisco 49ers, constantly ready to talk sports and watch a game. He also enjoyed comics, super heroes, movies, and spirited game nights, always ready to play one more hand. His good luck in a card game was legendary.
His faith was an anchor throughout his life. Joe loved his church and found strength and comfort in his relationship with the Lord. Joe was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in
Madisonville, TN, and valued his church family and opportunities to engage alongside them in service and fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Kay Grubb, and his grandmother, Lela Hiltbrand.
Joe is survived by his brother, Jon (Whitney) Grubb; his sister, Lee Anne (Todd) Strickland; his nieces and nephews, Paetyn, William, Julia, and Russ Grubb; Greyson (Erin), Cooper, Cole, and Quinn Strickland; and many other special family members and friends.
Joe's life was a testament to courage, loyalty, and enduring love. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, and a reminder to live beyond expectations and love deeply. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
The family would especially like to thank Joe's friends and caregivers at Tri-County Center and Access Medical Care.
