Joe Leyva Obituary

Joe David Leyva Sr.
May 1, 1948 - July 19, 2025
Joe David Leyva Sr., 77, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, surrounded by family, following complications from heart, diabetes, and kidney disease. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Joe was the son of Timoteo Leyva Sr. and Andrea Leyva. He grew up on the Westside and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. Joe married his beloved wife, Christine Leyva, 37 years ago. Together they built a home full of laughter and traditions on the Southside. He worked over 30 years as a truck driver, including time at Kraft Foods and U.S. Foods. Joe loved playing pool and softball. He was known for his cooking, BBQs, and elaborate Easter celebrations. He proudly rooted for the Spurs, Cowboys, and Longhorns and never missed WWE, a good Western, or a Jason Statham movie. The Leyva home was a neighborhood favorite, especially at Halloween and Christmas, earning the nickname "the Southside Griswolds." He is preceded in death by his parents, Timoteo and Andrea Leyva Sr.; sister, Lucy Leyva; and Soledad "Aunt Sally" Cano. He is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Leyva; children Joe David Leyva Jr. (Lucy), Mark Leyva (Lottie), Estella Valdez, Linda Johnson (Ernest), Anthony Valdez, and Andrea Barrientes (Luis); sister Susan Pastran (Billy); brothers Timoteo Leyva Jr. (Gloria) and Robert Leyva (Roberta); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family thanks everyone for their love, support, and prayers-especially the doctors and nurses whose care brought comfort to Joe and Christine. Happy trails, Joe, until we meet again.
