Joe W. Maynes, 78, of Lenox, died Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Creston. Burial will be at the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Pastor David Tebbenkamp and Pastor Dan Fields will officiate. Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Memorials are to be established in his name. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com. Joe William Maynes, Jr., son of Joe William Maynes, Sr. and Jean Marie (Reed) Maynes was born on July 12, 1933 in Omaha, Neb. He graduated from Lenox High School in 1951. After graduating, Joe began farming. On August 10, 1957 he was united in marriage to Lois Jean Johannes in Corning. They settled in the Lenox area. Joe was an avid farmer. In his early years, he raised pigs, sheep and cattle in addition to the broiler chickens and row crops that he was involved in presently. Joe had received the Rural / Urban Good Citizen Award in 2002. In recent years, Joe had attended the First Baptist Church in Creston. Joe is survived by his wife, Lois Maynes of Lenox; four sons, Bob (wife Eileen) Maynes of Afton, Lonnie (wife Cathy) Maynes of Lenox, Keith (wife Danette) Maynes of Winterset and Nick Maynes of Lenox; three daughters, Connie (husband Mike) Standley of Lenox, Cindy (husband Bob) Ford of Dallas Center and Darcy Maynes of Johnston; nineteen grandchildren: Trey, Parker and Haley Maynes, Clelland, Cayla and Caitlyn Maynes, Cory Fleharty, Jordan, Chris and Matt Maynes, Jayme Recker, Kristen Peerbaccus, Spenser Ford, Noah, Megan, Chris, Adam, Caleb and Michala Standley; and ten great-grandchildren: Payton and Preston Fleharty, Richard and Andrew Recker, Penley Peerbaccus, Makenna, Auna, Hazer, Cassidy and Stran Standley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Jean Maynes, stepmother, Wilma (Tyler) Maynes; brother, Harold Maynes, infant daughter, Julie Maynes, and his father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Lucinda Johannes.
