Joe Nell DeMilly Sager

The world lost a beloved, creative soul with the passing of Joe Nell Sager on December 29, 2024. Born in Tallahassee, Florida on September 20, 1937, to Nellie and Pros Piere Devere DeMilly, Jr, Joe Nell lived a life filled with love, joy, and a deep appreciation for beauty and adventure.
Joe Nell graduated from Leon High School and attended Florida State University where she met her future husband and was a proud member of the Flying High Circus. A talented artist and musician, she expressed her vibrant spirit through her work and found joy in music, often strumming her ukulele to the delight of family and friends. She truly enjoyed being a member of the Tallahassee Uke Jammers.
She was a take-charge kind of gal and a leader in every organization she was a part of. She was honored as ' Zontonian of the Year' by the Zonta Women's Business Club, a successful businesswoman, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Joe Nell's love of fishing began as a child on trips with her father and remained one of her favorite pastimes. She cherished her time at St. Teresa Beach since she was a young child. She spent many summers there at her grandmother's cottage, and it was her sanctuary and favorite place in the world, where she spent countless hours with loved ones, casting a line or simply enjoying the peace of the Gulf.
Joe Nell will be remembered for her strong will, sharp wit, quick humor and a quiet generosity.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Larry Sager, who's unwavering support was such a blessing especially since her stroke eight years ago, and her children, Terri L. Sager (Portland, OR) and Larry "Vince" Sager (Austin, TX) and her four cherished grandchildren, Jackson, Campbell, Kai, and Malia.
The Sager family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all our family and friends for their support. We offer a special thanks to Joy and James Frank, Margaret Mashburn Thurston, Donnda Tillmon and Yolanda Willis-Young, who's love and compassion have meant the world to us and sustained us in difficult times.
