In Loving Memory of Joe Warren Oliver

Joe Warren Oliver, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 78. Joe was born on February 22, 1947, to the late Coleman and Lillie Oliver. His life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, kindness, and a deep love for family and community.

For 48 years, Joe proudly served the Temple community as the owner and operator of Oliver Brothers Transmission, earning the respect and gratitude of generations of customers. He was also a longtime member of Waco Goodfellas, where he helped bring comfort and joy to those in need.

Joe’s greatest joys were spending time with his family and friends, especially while deer hunting at the family lease in San Saba, where laughter and storytelling were always plentiful around the campfire. He also had a passion for classic cars and was especially proud of his Ranchero, which he restored and showcased at numerous car shows throughout the area.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Sonny Oliver, and George Elmer Oliver; his late wife, Cathy Oliver; and his son, Jody Oliver.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Nell Oliver, whose steadfast support, and companionship brought him great happiness in his later years. Together they shared many special moments and built a home filled with love and laughter.

Joe also leaves behind his children: Tami Gill and her husband Sammy, Larry Oliver and his wife Shawn, Jeremy Collins and his wife Ashley, and Kimberly Conner.

He was a devoted brother to Gary Oliver and wife Sue, Lawrence Oliver and wife Annette, Cissy Willey and husband Jimmy, Barbara Ann Jenkins, Jeff Oliver and wife Delores, and Jeanette Oliver, along with her lifelong friend Lisa Mayes.

Joe’s love and guidance extended to his grandchildren: Nannette Oliver, Amanda Schneider and husband Kris, Lillie Oliver and fiancé Patrick Murray, Jennifer Horton and husband Ty, Ashlee Plant and wife Heather, Greggory Glover and wife Dusty, Justin Kemp and wife Megan, Gracie, Jordan Oliver and wife Madison, Chase Oliver, Logan Butler and husband Dalton, Tailyn Palmer, Kenzi Collins, Kyli Collins, Garret Conner, Tanner Weeaks, Kyle Tanksley and wife Carly, and Klay Tanksley.

He was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him so much happiness: Hunter Oliver, Remie Stanford, Kaden Schneider, Kyra Schneider, Hazel Flores, Forrest Murray, Brooklyn Horton, McKenzie Horton, Breonna Glover, Marchal Glover, Trinity Glover, Hannah Kemp, Luke Kemp, Charli Tanksley, Channing Tanksley, Bowen Butler, and Reese Butler.

Joe’s life was also enriched by the enduring friendship of his best friend, Larry Haigood, whose bond of friendship brought countless memories and companionship through the years.

As an uncle, Joe was a beloved and guiding figure to many nieces and nephews, always offering his wisdom, humor, and love to the next generations of his family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Oliver, Jeremy Collins, Greggory Glover, Chase Oliver, Garret Conner, and Tanner Weeaks. Honorary pallbearers are Marchal Glover, Justin Kemp, Bowen Butler, and Hunter Oliver.

Joe will be fondly remembered for his generosity, devotion to family, passion for the outdoors and classic cars, and for the integrity and warmth he shared with all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of many.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Waco Memorial Funeral Home.
