Joe Elmer Pechacek, 89, of Clyde passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, in a Clyde nursing center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Bailey Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Cody Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Born to Una and Joe Pechacek in Abilene on February 13, 1935. Joe graduated from Abilene High School in 1953 and attended Hardin Simmons University. Joe worked for McKesson Robbins and Behrens Drug and then owned and operated Thunderbird Texaco in Abilene for 21 years. Joe married Eva Cochran Cotten on May 7, 1965, in Abilene and moved to Clyde in 1967.
Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseracing. He was proficient in all varieties of pecans and grafting of the trees. He also enjoyed going to the lake cabin and the Ruidoso, New Mexico cabin. Joe also had impressive woodworking skills. He and Eva enjoyed playing dominoes and cards with her brothers, "The Cochran Boys".
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Una Pechacek; sisters, Billie Smith and Betty Nabours and stepdaughter, Pamela Cotten.
He is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Eva Pechacek of Clyde; stepdaughter, Patricia Howell and husband Jim of Decatur; son, Eric Pechacek and wife Martha of Hamby; three grandchildren, James Warren Howell and wife Labresa of Chico, Caitlin Bybee and husband Jeff of Santo and Codi Parmerlee and husband Tyler of Clyde and ten great grandchildren, Kaydnz Brown, Brylie Clark, Bristol Clark, Kynlee Clark, Jameson Howell, Jorja Howell, Kooper Bybee, Jaxson Bybee, Adonis Brown and Jhane Brown. Joe is also survived by his nephew, Emmit Smith and wife Terri of Houston and several cousins.
