Joe Lee Rouse

Joe Lee Rouse, age 78, passed away March 29, 2026. He was born in Lucedale, MS to Robert Lee "Tut" Rouse and LaVonne Sumrall Rouse. He was a lifetime member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years, and taught Sunday School. He was a dedicated member of the Church Cemetery committee, a role he carried out with great respect and devotion. He continued his service to the community through his active role on the Combined Utility Water Board.

Mr. Rouse taught school in George County for 31 years. He taught at Central Elementary School for 25 years and at George County High School for 6 years. He was deeply loved by his students, who appreciated his knowledge, kindness, and dedication.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and LaVonne S. Rouse; sister, Frances Rouse Healey; mother and father-in-law, Oscar and Evelyn Eichelberger Rouse.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audra Rouse; daughters, Leigh (Kerry) Bass, Heather (Jason) Wade, Amanda (Johnathan) Bruns; siblings, Jean Pope and Judith (Mack) Pursell; grandchildren, Bailey Bass, Morgan Wade, Brady Bass, Alex Wade, Sawyer Bruns, Annabel Bruns, Madelyn Wade, and Denson Bruns; numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The Visitation will be Friday, April 3 ,2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will begin on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Branden Rogers and Dr. Richard Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Alex Wade, Brady Bass, Sawyer Bruns, Denson Bruns, Jason Wade, Kerry Bass, and Johnathan Bruns. Honorary Pallbearers include Charlie Robbins, Thomas O'Neal, Jerry Rogers, Sam Kline, Steve Pugh, Clyde Dungan, L.D West, Wilmon Howell, and Gerald Moody.
