JOE M. SKIPPER
GRIMES… Joe M. Skipper, a resident of Grimes, Alabama passed away late Thursday night, August 22, 2024, at a Dothan hospital. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Pastor Phillip Pinyan officiating. A eulogy will be given by Jim Rich. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Skipper was born in Grimes, Alabama to the late Henry Clope “H.C.” Skipper and Mavis Merline Clark Skipper. He lived most of his life in the Grimes, Alabama area. He was a 1960 graduate of Headland High School and a 1964 graduate of Troy State University. When in high school he played football and was on the track team, where he tied the state high jump record. He served his country in the U.S. Air National Guard. He retired as the office manager of Howell Plywood in Dothan, Alabama, after thirty-nine years of dedicated service. He was a licensed & certified taxidermist. He raced round track for many years, building and driving his own cars. After his racing career he carried on his love for cars by working on street rods. He was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting as much as possible. Joe was a huge fan of girls fastpitch softball, going to tournaments to watch his granddaughter play. Spending time with his family and friends was his favorite past time. The apples of his eyes, was the love for his grandchildren. He was a member of the Grimes Methodist Church.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Skipper and John Skipper.
Leaving to cherish his memories is his sons, Mike Skipper (Tiffany) and Mark Skipper (Karen); his grandchildren, Hunter Skipper, Blane Skipper, and Brianna Skipper Barry (Dan); his sister-in-law, Judy Skipper; and his several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Hunter Skipper, Blane Skipper, Dan Barry, Jay Skipper, Bruce Hall, and Bo Thagard.
