Mr. Joe Nathean Thompson, age 78, of Sanford, North Carolina, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 19, 2025, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

The Journey

Joe Nathean Thompson was born on May 12th, 1947, to Nathaniel Thompson and Eva Mae Reives in Lee County, North Carolina. He was the oldest of three children. Joe Nathean entered eternal rest on September 19, 2025.

He attended JS Waters in Goldston, NC, as part of the public school's system and would have graduated from there, but he was drafted into the Army and served from 1967-1969. Unfortunately, he sustained a medical injury and was late discharged. Once home he finally settled in Sanford, Joe Nathean worked at The Hampton Inn hotel until he retired. While living in Sanford he met two women and had five beautiful children Shenequa Goldston, Nathan Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Tamara Clarida, and Tara Simon. Joe Nathean had great joy with all his children and loved spending quality time with them, his grandchildren, family, and friends.

He liked going fishing, playing cards, watching wresting, and was known for his cooking skills.

Joe Nathean was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Thompson, and Eva Mae Reives, his two brothers Edward Thompson, and Charles Thompson.

He is survived by, five children, Shenequa Goldston (David), Nathan Thompson (Jackelynette), Jonathan Thompson, Tamara Clarida (Brian), Tara Simon; eleven grandchildren Desma Slaton, Markitia Headen, Jasmin Goldston, Eva Thompson, Felicity Thompson, Justin Thompson, Kaleigh Thompson, Journee Thompson, Briana Clarida, Simon Clarida, and Maleak Allen; four great-grandchildren; Rakeem Eley Jr., Cassidy Davis, Autumn Davis, and Xavier Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a first cousin, like a sister, Stella Goldston.
