VICKERS, Mr. Joe Henderson - Age 86, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, February 7, 2025 at Macedonia Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor George Wilkerson, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Vickers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday, with family present from 4:00PM -6:00PM to receive friends. Mr. Joe Henderson Vickers, 86, affectionately known as "Bunny" by family and friends, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025. He was born on June 7, 1938, in Tribbett, Mississippi to the late Hattie and Sanford Vickers. Joe lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to his country; leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. A proud veteran, He served in the United States Army, dedicating two years of his life to this country. After his military service, Joe worked diligently for over 30 years at Chevrolet V8 plant. In those 30 years of service, he and several of his friends created "OBSIE" (Organization for Black, Salaried Industrial Employees). He earned the respect and admiration of all of his colleagues. He also attended Davenport University. Joe found immense pleasure in baseball (watching, playing, and collecting baseball paraphernalia), fishing, playing cards, and watching all sports. His other activities included boxing and being a proud member of the Quintones singing group. Joe often shared these passions with his family and friends. He had a deep love for God and his family. Joe was a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. Mr. Joe Henderson Vickers leaves behind a loving family that includes his children, Gwendolyn Nelson (Grand Blanc), Jerald (Lorna) Vickers (Hong Kong), Mitchel Vickers (Grand Blanc), and Michael Vickers (Grand Blanc); sister, Rachel Weststrock (Flint); grandchildren, Brendan Vickers (Colorado), Jerrell Vickers (Detroit), Rhelda Vickers (Mom Tawana Morgan) (Atlanta), and Tyra Vickers (Hong Kong); god-daughter, Jasmine (Ricky) Newton; former wife and friend, Sweetie Vickers (Mother of his sons). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces and leaves to cherish his memory a host of family and friends who were dear to his heart. Special Mention goes to Bob Wilson, Otis Martin, and Sam Harvey who were lifelong special friends. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Vickers; parents, Sanford and Hattie Vickers; brothers, Sanford Vickers, Jr., Edward (Jean) Vickers; and Sellous Vickers; sisters, Devonia (John) Lloyd, Annie Jane Vickers and Ida Veal; brother-in-law, James Weststrock; cousins, Georgia Mae Veal and Hattie Mae Hawkins. Joe Henderson Vickers will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
