Joe Woods, Jr., was born on October 7, 1927 in Greensboro, Alabama, to the late Ellen and Joe Woods, Sr. He departed this life on Saturday, March 28, 2020. He attended Greensboro Elementary School where he completed the 6th grade. He accepted Christ at the Christian Valley Baptist Church, in Greensboro, Alabama. Joe united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan in 1947 under the leadership of REV. Reed.
Joe served in the Korean War and was discharged with honors. He held many titles during his 45+ years at Pontiac Motors. Well after retiring he was a avid member of local 653. Joe became a Trustee on the UAW retirees board of directors, continuing to pour his heart and soul into the community, touching the lives of so many. He was also a member of the American Legion for many years building friendships with anyone and everyone. Joe will be tremendously missed by friends and family alike.
He is now reunited with his parents, his two sisters, the late Annie (George) King and Ella (Sidney) Carter and a host of nephews and nieces.
He leaves to cherish his memories his brother Willie (Betty Jean) Woods, his son Gregory (Bill) Lewis, his step-son Luther Daniel, stepdaughters Arvonne Wright and Elaine Daniel and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and other loving relatives and friends
Mr. Woods will lie in repose on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road., Pontiac, Michigan, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Mr. Woods will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. A Memorial Service for Joe Woods, Jr., will be held at a later date
