Joel Jules Brewer, age 64, of Yankton, South Dakota, went to full rest at his home March 10, 2026.
A celebration of Joel’s life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton, South Dakota.
Joe was born January 25, 1962 in Sisseton, South Dakota, to Louis and Dorothy (Redwing) Brewer. Joe grew up in foster care but found his way as a farm boy throughout small towns in South Dakota until being adopted by Neils and Etta Sorensen. He married Susan Gleich on June 13, 2008 in Bayfield, Colorado. Joe lived in Colorado for 36 years and fulfilled a career in Fire and Water restoration, carpentry, fencing. You name it and he’s done it; he was a man of many trades.
Joe loved to teach and help those around him and laugh all the time, he loved the outdoors and being in the mountains preferably and listening to old school music of course. He was a member of the Santee Sioux Tribe and the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Brewer; daughter, Jennifer Brewer; two sons: James and Joshua Brewer; two brothers: Jeff and Bill Brewer; sister-in-law, Kathy Brewer; nine grandchildren; as well as two step sons: Joseph and Christopher Newton.
Joe is preceded in death by his brother Louis “Chip” Brewer who passed February 9, 2025 as well as his biological and adoptive parents, family friends and many dogs who he loved dearly.
