Joel Edgar Clarke
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joel Edgar Clarke, who entered into eternal rest at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy, a condition that masked itself as Parkinson's Disease. Joel passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family and the love of his devoted wife of 59 years, Jeanne.
Born in Pennsylvania to Edgar and Ruth Leibelsperger Clarke, Joel graduated from Milton Hershey High School in Hershey, PA, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Printing Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology. His professional career began at Jensen Printing in Minneapolis before moving to Rochester, NY, where he worked with Case Hoyt Printing. Later, he accepted a position at WA Krueger in Milwaukee, where he dedicated 25 years of service. Afterward, Joel shifted his career path into computer support with E-Funds, where he embraced new challenges and opportunities.
Joel's life was full of passion and curiosity. A true self-taught handyman, he taught himself to build and repair anything long before the days of YouTube-renovating kitchens and bathrooms, building a shed, crafting copper booths, and even designing a trailer. Around the home, he was always resourceful, creative, and willing to tackle any challenge. He also volunteered countless hours of his time and talents, including helping with the construction of the large sanctuary at Elmbrook Church, where he poured both skill and heart into the project.
Beyond his craftsmanship, Joel pursued many hobbies and interests including photography, motorcycle racing, bicycle riding and racing, speed skating, kayaking, kettlebell training, and perfecting his signature recipes for cheese popcorn, pesto, and habanero sauce. His adventurous spirit extended to travel-his favorite destinations included China, Israel, Alaska, and several European cruises. He also cherished road trips, staycations with his grandchildren, and the treasured family 50th wedding anniversary trip to Huatulco, Mexico.
Above all, Joel's faith in the Lord guided his life. He served faithfully as an usher at Elmbrook Church for nearly 20 years, joyfully welcoming and greeting those in his section every Saturday evening until health challenges made it difficult to continue. His strong belief assures his family that he is now in the presence of Jesus, filled with peace and joy.
Joel is survived by his loving wife Jeanne, daughter Amy, and son Bryan. He was a proud grandfather to Brooke McAloon, Joshua McAloon, Sargent Ian Clarke, and Seaman Gavin Clarke. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law Louise Smith and Maryann Newman Rivera; nieces Ellen Kruk, Melissa Newman (Mark), Kim Kelly, and Cynthia Criss; nephews Tom Kruk (Mary), Andrew Newman (Christine), and Robert Newman (Wendy); and many cherished grandnieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his sister Gaile Kruk and brother-in-law Thomas Kruk.
Joel's life was marked by devotion-to his family, his work, his craftsmanship, his passions, and most of all, his faith. His legacy of love, strength, and steadfastness will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
The celebration of Joel's life will be Thursday, September 4, 2025, at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 380 Bluemound Road,
