Joel Dowling Obituary
Evans, GA – Mr. Joel Perry Dowling,93, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Born in Waycross, GA in 1931, Joe graduated from Waycross High School in 1948. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army and served for 3 years during the Korean War.
Joe had a long career with Standard Brands (25 years) and Archer Daniel Midland (15 years) where he distinguished himself excelling in salesmanship.
Not only a loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a Godly man who loved his church. Joe was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder. Joe was a “father” and mentor to many men and women in his family and church.
One of his many passions was the game of golf. He played with many friends, business partners, and family members and competed in the occasional charity or business tournament.
He was known for his zest for life, enormous charm and great sense of humor. He never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Patsy Winouski Dowling, Joe was preceded in death by his parents: Joel Spain Dowling and Ida Malissie Thomas; sisters: Mary Sundy and Edith Hickox; brother: Oswald Dowling; nephew: Mitchell Sundy.
Family members include his children Sonya D. Rankin (Jim) and Carl P. Dowling (Susan); Grandchildren: Natalie Rankin, Grant Rankin, Garrett Rankin, Stephen Dowling, Aaron Dowling (Kathryn), Claire Dowling, and Thomas Dowling. Nephews include Donald Dowling, Ronald Dowling, Randall Hickox, Richard Hickox, and Edward Sundy.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Mark Scholten officiating.
Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Grant Rankin, Stephen Dowling, Aaron Dowling, Randy Waters, Rich Nelligan, and Bryan McReynolds. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4303 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
