John 11:33 says: "When Jesus saw her weeping and the Jews who had come with her weeping and groaning, he groaned within himself and became troubled." Jesus expressed tears when his friend Lazarus died, he knows how it feels to lose a dead loved one and he understands what you and your family are experiencing. May this bring you and your family comfort in this time of need. cjp (fla.)

I got the chance to meet Joey Bishop when he was with the Harmonica Rascals and appearing at the Playboy Resort & Country Club Great Gorge, NJ. That would have been in the early 1980s when I worked there as the Playmate Restaurant manager. Mr. Bishop would come into the restaurant, often alone, to enjoy a quiet meal. I made sure the staff didn't bother him and he was quite a gentleman. His legacy will live on.

To the Family,
All the wonderful memories Joey made and left for all to cherish. May the family find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Almighty will certainly wipe the tears from all faces...."

To the family: May the comfort from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

For Joey...the stone-faced comedian who found success in nightclubs, television and movies but became most famous as a member of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I never met Joey Bishop, I did see him on TV in Movies and once when I went to the Johnny Carson show in NY. I saw him in person. At this time Joey Bishop was a guest host. I remember a little about his monologue.. It was about Good News he was talking about the News and that it was always Bad News. Well now that he has passed, as it is Sad News the Good News is that he is in Heaven and God will be welcoming him and now he can share all the Good News that he has brought to the world here on earth as well as in Heaven. God Bless you Joey and thank you for the many years of Good News you have left.

A great loss with the demise of Joey Bishop, and the final curtain being lowered once and for all for the famed Rat Pack. My tribute to Joey was a letter published in the O.C. Register on 10/21/07 depicting a great man. Living in Newport Beach, I once rode my bike past his house just to say that I did.

I truely enjoyed you and the others who formed "The Rat Pack" ... both in song and comedy. While most of my friends in school thought that I was "too squared" to listen to you (I was born in 1955), watching you on television and listening to you on radio is what I call "true entertainment" ... something that is mostly missing from television and radio today. I hope that some television and radio stations will continue to play your hits ... as there are not that many "Clean-Cut" and "Slap-Stick" entertainers out their any more. Thanks for making me, my mother (born in 1932) and my grandmother (1906) laugh for all of these years.

To the Bishop Family: Growing up in the 60's, it was a special and rare privilege to be allowed to stay up for his talk show and laugh with the grownups. Other nights my parents would wake us up with their laughter watching him, and the jokes would be repeated the next night at dinner. South Philly always considered him one of their gifts to the world. May the joy Joey brought my family flow as comfort to yours. Sonofagun!
