Joey Lee Merritt, 66, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on Monday, July 28, 2025. Born on May 29, 1959, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Joey was the son of the late Bill and Dorothy (Carver) Merritt. He dedicated his working life to the Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, where he served with compassion and commitment.
Joey was known for his giving spirit; he was a person who never met a stranger, welcoming everyone with warmth and kindness. He looked forward to taking drives, enjoyed listening to music, and had a deep-rooted passion for drag racing. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with his family, creating lasting memories that will be forever cherished.
He is survived by his fiancée, Amy Evans, along with his brothers, Darrell (Amy) and Robert Merritt. Additionally, he is survived by his parents-in-law, Darrell and Tammy Donaldson; sister-in-law, Carey Million (David); nephews, Justin and Kyle Million; and great-niece and great-nephew, Brylee and Cayden Million.
A visitation in honor of Joey will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens in New Albany.
