Life Celebration Center of Punta GordaWith heavy and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Johanna Eldredge, age 52, most recently of Palmetto, Florida.
Born on July 4, 1973, in New Hampshire to Linnea and David McAlpin, Johanna carried the bold, fiery spirit of her Independence Day birthday throughout her life. She was strong, compassionate, and deeply devoted to the people she loved.
Originally from New Hampshire, Johanna later made her way to Florida, where she built a life filled with family, love, and purpose. She most recently resided in Palmetto, Florida, with her soulmate and husband, Michael Schimke. Their love brought her renewed happiness, laughter, and companionship. She cherished the life they built together and the peace she found in that love.
Johanna was a devoted mother to her three children: Rebecca Donaldson, David Eldredge, and Brooke Eldredge as and incredibly proud Mimi to Ellie, Gavin, and Khalia, who brought endless joy and light into her life.
She dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. Her compassion was not just a career; it was who she was at her core. She was deeply passionate about helping people, advocating for others, and showing up when it mattered most. Even during her own illness, her strength and concern for those around her never wavered.
Johanna is survived by her husband, Michael Schimke of Palmetto, Florida; her children, Rebecca Donaldson (fiancé Caleb Sims) of North Port, Florida, David Eldredge of Palmetto, Florida, and Brooke Eldredge; her grandchildren, Ellie and Gavin Donaldson and Khalia; her parents, Linnea and David McAlpin of Port Charlotte, Florida; her sister, Jennifer Olberg (husband Eric); her brother, Jacob McAlpin (wife Meredith) of New Hampshire; and many extended family members and friends who she loved deeply and who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Johanna's love was fierce. Her laugh was unforgettable. Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fully capture. Though our hearts are shattered, we are grateful for the years we had with her and the love she poured into our lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 W. Henry Street, Punta Gorda, Florida 33950. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Johanna's life.
